Case Study: Assessment of orphan drugs landscape for a new anti-epileptic, including funding flows and willingness to pay
Problem
The client was developing a new therapy for the treatment of a rare form of epilepsy and needed to understand the orphan drug landscape, including funding flows and payers’ willingness to pay for the product in the US and EU5.
Solution
- Conducted secondary research to understand the P&MA landscapes across the countries and explore potential barriers to market access
- Secondary research was also used to identify relevant stakeholders for primary research and identify knowledge gaps to be tested and explored further in primary research
- Conducted qualitative research with payers/payer influencers across the markets to gain insights on unmet need in the therapy area, explore evidence requirements, perceptions of the new therapy and willingness to pay
Outcome
- An in-depth understanding and detailed visual demonstration of the funding flows as well as key payer stakeholder mapping and distinction between decision makers and influencers
- Provided comprehensive implications and recommendations for P&MA strategies to optimize success for the new product
